As a long-time fan of When They Cry, I was thoroughly disappointed with Higurashi SotsuGou, which failed to live up to its predecessors' standards. This sequel/standalone is nothing but a poor man's recap of Tsumiboroshi, without any of the good stuff included. It's cringy, subpar, and handled poorly – everything that Higurashi has always been.

The story focuses on Rena Ryuugu, our favorite girl, as she begins her journey to get the future she desires by any means necessary. Alongside Satoko Houjou, Rika Furude's best friend, they navigate their lives in Hinamizawa, longing for a return to nostalgic days gone by.

However, their dreams are put on hold when Satoko encounters a supernatural entity that changes her perception and imparts new revelations about Rika. This rift between them grows as they grow older, with Rika determined to follow her dreams and Satoko hesitant but ultimately deciding to join her friend on this path.

As they explore every day together, filled with fun and laughter alongside their other friends, it's clear that Higurashi SotsuGou is the worst iteration of its series. It lacks the depth, complexity, and engaging storytelling that fans have come to expect from When They Cry. The poor quality and handling of the story are a testament to the franchise's decline.

In conclusion, if you're looking for an authentic Higurashi experience, I would highly recommend avoiding SotsuGou altogether. Instead, revisit the original series or Tsumiboroshi, which showcase the true potential of When They Cry.
